Septic

Perhaps my proudest day as a Londoner so far was when my countrymen told me what this term means in relationship to Americans.

    I swung by Dictionary.com to check the official definitions.

    I'm afraid to ask, but feel compelled: What do they mean when they use it in relation to the U.S.?

    It is rhyming slang - Septic Tank = Yank.

    In Australia, they take it one step further in crypto-meaning by calling Americans "Seppies"

    Jeff's right - it's the whole Cockney rhyme game.

    And as you might suspect, it's a bit pejorative.
